Digital Storytelling 101 in Class

This one was originally created using Domo Animate. This is what was left of it.

Reflection on the Lesson Plan

I thought that 40 minutes was too short for an English lesson. I have had to use group or pair activities rather than individual activities. I still think my plan has too many activities for such a short lesson.

My IT-integrated activities consisted of two homework assignments. The first one was a wiki assignment and the second one was a blogging assignment. These intended to make sure that the students wrote about the opinions about our topic that they should have formed during and after class.

The first assignment used wikispaces because I wanted my students to interact with each other when answering the questions they were given. The second assignment used our class blog because it was in the form of a fun test and I thought little comments on their answers would be sufficient for this assignment.

Overall I thought that the use of technology in this lesson made sure that all students were included in the learning process. It ensured that they got feedback from their friends and reviewed what was learned in the previous class.

The Wiki Experience

Overall I found wikiing good and very useful for collaborative work. I enjoyed reading my classmates' work and in retrospect I think that it would have been better if I had chosen to add to an entry that already had things written under them rather than starting a new title.

Wikiing gives a sense of working together. It creates a platform where students are allowed to make mistakes and where they can get immediate feedback on those mistakes. If we think the entries contain false information we are free to edit them or make additions to them.

One aspect of wikis, which I suspect may be important, is that they may require strict moderation, especially when they are being used by students. Editing/deleting others' entries may cause problems. Also, like we have discussed in class, putting up material without indicating the source may also be problematic.

On cooking

I do not know whether "cook" is the word that best describes me or not but what I do know is that it says a lot about me. I enjoy being in the kitchen. I also enjoy feeding my friends and family. I am not the best cook ever- not at all- but I spend an awful lot of time trying out different recipes. The second "o" you see in the picture above has been my greatest cooking disaster so far. A month ago or so I had a go at baking gluten-free bread and this is what I got after three and a half hours of dedicated work.

I see cooking as a way of self-expression and a source of inspiration. My kitchen is full of things that most people would tend to keep elsewhere -books, music, newspapers, pencils, pens, etc. I enjoy working, reading and thinking in the kitchen. Cooking is one of the few things that make me feel happy, creative and productive with surprisingly little effort- that's probably why I attach so much importance to it.
